Reghard
Roets

BIO
Reghard’s dad is to blame for his love affair with speed and aviation as he was introduced to this amazing world as a young boy. Growing up on a motorcross bike taught him the ability to explore the limits of grip and physics and despite never racing on two wheels it allowed him to race single seaters successfully from the age of fifteen. Working for various racing teams he gained in depth knowledge in preparing race cars and engines where he soon became regional formula Ford champion and just missing out on winning the national championship in his first full year of national racing in 1995. His talent was spotted and he was offered a drive by Nissan in the annual 9hr endurance race where he immediately mixed it up with seasoned campaigners, landing him a saloon car drive for the following season launching his tin-top career with a season in Group N racing for Honda. A year later he progressed to the Polo cup one make series where he was a front runner for three years and he still holds the record for 9 wins in a row! Another group N drive was on the cards, this time for BMW in Class A mixing it with the best racers in the country! He went on to become South African group N champion in his first full season in this class and for the following 10 years drove for Alfa Romeo, Nissan, Opel and finally back to BMW again in 2010. Opening his own business and moving to the coast forced a withdrawal from full time motorsport. Staying fit was always a priority and by moving his focus to racing bicycles he soon stood on national podiums while also completing the gruelling 8 day Cape Epic mountain bike race twice. He still competed in endurance car races, did some stunt and precision driving for the movie industry. A highlight was winning the “king of the hill” in a Nissan GTR R35 at the prestigious Simola hillclimb in 2017 and again in 2018! Chasing a lifelong dream he took the plunge and entered the 30th Trans Agulhas boat race, also known as the “toughest inflatable boat race in the world”. He describes racing for 700km over 5 days in a small inflatable boat as one of the hardest events he has entered and after finishing second in his class decided to race the full national championship in 2018 as well as enter the world championship in Frejus France in September 2018.
