Although it’s been a week since the Dakar rally has finished, we still dream off sand. A good excuse to look back at what is not only one of the toughest rallies in the world but without hesitation, also one of the most beautiful.
Although it’s been a week since the Dakar rally came to an end, we’re still dreaming of sand. And we don’t think we need an excuse to look back on what is not only one of the toughest rally events in the world, but also without hesitation one of the most beautiful.
Looking at the mountains and dunes, which dwarf any truck, it’s easy to forget those riders and drivers are pushing through some of the toughest terrain on earth. They hardly have a moment to enjoy the scenery because they have to be on their guard constantly. That spectacular dune may be hiding a nasty drop on the other side. Approach it too fast and it could be curtains for your chances. The vast lakebed that looked like something out of a Star Wars movie, but is actually composed entirely of fesh-fesh – sand so soft that it acts like quick sand and will swallow a whole car.
This Dakar was definitely one of the most demanding yet, but without a doubt it was a truly spectacular adventure. These are our favourite images – take a look for yourself.
