2017 season recap

Mette
07 January

Last year's season was unfortunately filled with a number of cancelled races due to bad weather conditions. The season started in Lithuania, which turned out to be an ok race, but due to accidents in the start, the race had to eventually be started under yellow flag. After a failed qualifying session, I started the race in last position, which meant I was far behind when the flag was dropped. I managed to climb a couple position in the race, but not enough to secure any points unfortunately.

Second race was in Belgium. We arrived in Antwerp with anticipation of a successful race, but we were devastated when the race was cancelled due to heavy wind and big waves.

The third race was in Norway - home circuit! I was really excited about this race as I had done quite well there last year, qualifying 19th and ended in 6th. This year was different. Qualifying did not go well at all, a lot of bad propeller decisions, malfunctioning radios and head that was not in the game. I missed the race by one position and had to watch from shore.

The fourth race was held in Italy - back to Campione d'Italia, a venue with good memories. Beautiful surroundings at the Lago Di Lugano, everything was set for a great weekend of racing. Free practice and qualifying on Saturday went well (apart from my little barrel roll mishap!) and we were all ready to race on the Sunday. On race day we were met by heavy wind and big waves. The race was postponed and eventually cancelled.

The last World Championship race of the season was held in Portugal on the magnificent Douro river. The weather was gorgeous, but we knew the wind would cause problems the moment we arrived. All sessions on the water was postponed, but the race was a success and we were able to crown a World Champion after a very short season.

Right now I'm in the middle of planning the 2018 season - a lot of exciting things are happening and I'm so eager to share it with all of you!!

Love, Mette
